International Volunteer Managers Day 2025: Celebrating the Power of Volunteerism

September 1, 2025 – Each year on November 5, communities around the world come together to honor the professionals and community leaders who make volunteerism possible: Volunteer Engagement Professionals and Leaders of Volunteer Engagement. These individuals mobilize millions of volunteers globally to create real change in our local communities.

Since its inception in 1999, International Volunteer Managers Day (IVMDay) has grown into a global celebration observed in more than 30 countries. From libraries, human services organizations and hospitals, to schools, cultural institutions and corporate social responsibility programs, volunteer managers make an extraordinary impact by connecting people to causes that change lives.

This year’s celebration carries the theme: “Be BOLD. Make Change.” It serves as both recognition of the boldness volunteer managers already embody and an invitation for organizations and communities to take action in support of them.

“Volunteer leaders across the globe know what it means to think creatively, take risks, and rally people to a cause,” said Andy Fryar, IVMDay Committee Chairperson. “On IVMDay, we celebrate their courage, innovation, and the incredible impact they make every single day.”

To mark the occasion, IVMDay is launching the #BeBoldMakeChangeChallenge, inviting everyone to honor and support volunteer managers by:

  • Celebrating: Thank the volunteer managers in your community — from nonprofits and schools to libraries, hospitals, and corporations. A card, a treat, or a heartfelt message goes a long way.
  • Standing Out: Wear bold colors on November 5 and share on social media with #IVMDay25 why volunteer managers matter.
  • Stepping Up: Volunteer Managers — showcase your bold approaches to tackling challenges and inspire others by sharing your stories with #BeBoldMakeChange.
  • Speaking Out: Nonprofit leaders — advocate for volunteer managers to have a seat at the decision-making table.
  • Funding Boldly: Foundations — invest in volunteer programs that provide vital support to volunteer managers and the communities they serve.

2025 Theme

The IVMDay team are pleased to launch the theme for IVMDay 2025.

“Be BOLD. Make Change.”

This year’s theme recognises that for change to occur, we often need to step outside our own comfort zone – and so we wanted to encourage a call to action where this may be required.

We also think we can have some fun with the Be BOLD theme.

Please keep an eye out for social media memes and other resources we are currently working on, but for now please use these theme images, quote images and countdown images to promote IVMDay 2025 to your networks.
